June 20 - 23 - Rodeo De Santa Fe, Santa Fe - Sanctioned by the PRCA, so there are names we will be seeing and hearing about in the world of Professional Rodeo. Our rodeo began in 1949 when Gene Petchesky and Austin "slim" Green had a dream and the determination to organize a rodeo in Santa Fe. July 28 - 50th Annual Bat Flight Breakfast, Carlsbad - The breakfast began in 1957 as a way to encourage visitors to see the bats' morning return flight. August 3 - 5 - Ruidoso Chamber Music Festival, Ruidoso - The Daedalus Quartet performs on August 4th, and The Jupiter String Quartet will perform on August 5th. Other activities planned in conjunction with the festival are a pre-concert talk, an art exhibit in the theater lobby, and receptions after each performance at which concert goers can meet the musicians. August 25 - Barnaby Bear Star Gazer Party, Albuquerque - Join us for star gazing, hands-on educational activities, crafts, and games. Barnaby Bear, the literacy bear, will be the "star" of the evening. He will teach kids about the night sky, read a story, and sign autographs, while spreading the word that "Readers Are Leaders!" September 1 - 2 - Hatch Valley Chile Festival, Hatch Valley - Come for a hot and spicy taste sensation. Events include a chile cook-off, chile roasting, a chile pod competition, tractor pulls, horseshoe contests, a kid corner, and a Chile Queen parade. The Mesilla Valley is ideal agricultural land, and the farmers are constantly developing new breeds and flavors. Fresh picked chile is roasted in giant metal baskets that rotate over a propane flame. October 13 - 2nd Annual Mimbres Valley Harvest Festival, Mimbres - As the growing season draws to a close in October, residents of the Mimbres Valley will be coming together to celebrate their life in the valley.
